Mount Liamuiga
Mount Liamuiga is the volcanic summit of St Kitts, rising over the northern interior with rainforest slopes, cloud cover, and a broad crater basin.
Overview
Mount Liamuiga is a dormant volcano with steep rainforest slopes and a high crater basin near its summit. Conditions turn cooler, wetter, and more enclosed as the mountain rises above the lowlands, and the upper ridge often sits in cloud.
It stands in the northern interior above Dieppe Bay Area and the villages of far northern St Kitts. The mountain is closely tied to Central Forest Reserve National Park and the Mount Liamuiga Crater Trail, which is the route most often used to reach the upper slopes.
Seen from around the island, Liamuiga anchors both the skyline and much of the interior drainage of St Kitts. The shift from coastal heat to dense mountain forest is especially clear on this mountain.
