About Basseterre Fisheries Complex

The Basseterre Fisheries Complex is a central hub for the St Kitts and Nevis Department of Marine Resources, the governing body tasked with the sustainable management of the Federation's fisheries and aquaculture sectors. The department’s operations are focused on the implementation of Marine Management Areas (MMAs), the deployment of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), and the enforcement of fisheries legislation for both local and high-seas fleets.

In addition to its role in resource management, the facility supports innovative economic initiatives such as the St Kitts Nevis Aquaculture Pilot Project and a specialized seamoss cultivation program. These projects provide alternative livelihoods for citizens through comprehensive training, environmental research, and product development support. By combining regulatory oversight with market research and modern infrastructure, the complex plays a vital role in ensuring the long-term food security and marine health of the Federation.
